Pavel Amosov
Interactive designer

‘Since commercial design and art are two very different areas I think that the best source of inspiration for me would be the most trivial objects or interfaces from our everyday life (like household stuff, computers, etc.). Observing how people interact with these things is essential. Design should be simple and obvious. To me the best example of this approach in the one of Dieter Rams — former chief industrial designer at Braun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieter_Rams). Another great way to raise your angle of view is travelling. The flow of everyday life in different places of our world and their design culture is a great food for thought. Especially it goes for the big cities. Reading books also helps a lot. By the way, a must read for any designer is Edward Tufte’s “Envisioning Information”.
These days I try to work mostly on visual UI design for various web applications and other interesting digital things like touch screen interfaces and try to move away from traditional web design as we used to know it for the past years. It’s where the industry is moving today and the second big factor is that I prefer to create stuff that has a practical usage in our life. That’s why I’d probably be a very bad artist.”
