Gatis Cirulis / Rawtype
Graphic artist, illustrator and problem solver.

Born and raised in Latvia. With background in mathematics and farming, I slowly found my way into world of professional graphic design and illustration. I have degrees in Graphic Design, Visual Communication and Fine Arts. Currently I live in USA and pursue MFA in Graphic Design with concentration in letterpress printing and digital painting and sculpting. I have been working in design field since 2001. During that time I worked as an illustrator, art director, publication designer and web designer. Along the way, I have done numerous freelance projects that include interior design, murals, tattoos, commissioned paintings, industrial and floral design.

I come from Zalieniki where my family owns a farm called Mezaciruli. I studied mathematics in University in Liepaja. I got bored of it and went to army. Then I was accepted to LLU in Jelgava and got an internship to study agriculture in Michigan State University in US. I lived in Michigan and worked on a farm as part of my exchange program. My host family noticed my interest in art and suggested that I enroll in art program. This was the start of my formal education in art and design.

Inspiration : Gorgeous women, good food, flora and fauna, martial arts, beer, letterforms, dualities, simple people, architecture, meat and sauna.
