Filtered, also known as Filter was founded and finally gained it’s current name in May 2009 at approximately 13:50 by accidentally spilling smoking filters all over the class.

Whole idea was to create a creative playground in a space we could call in our own name, with our own rules and preferences. So called bar-gallery – a nice place for people to come and relax, and for us to express our feelings through music,photography,painting,drawing and other imaginative and creative areas.

To start with, we did set up a blog to give those who are concerned an easy access to articles and interviews with and about interesting talented people from Latvia. As well as some overviews of upcoming events, exhibitions and concerts, or any other interesting stuff that is happening in Latvia.

It happened so, that at the beginning we had the majority of Latvian street artists gathered at our site, which was surprisingly pleasant experience. Since there was no similar amount of street artists gathered at one place with that kind of information. All the information we have published goes straightly from artists, which is also really important for it means that the information we are offering is really unique and always interesting.

July 2009. An idea of organizing a concert was born spontaneously in our mind. We started looking for a place.

August 2009. We turned up at «Up in Smoke» bar with our very first  event.

From that moment on we started gathering musicians of all kinds to organize something special. Our first concert was followed by several events up to this fall’s Halloween party at «Indigo» club, also including several concerts at «Up in Smoke» and visualising the concert organized by neformat.lv at «Saksofon» bar within the «Aiziet» music fest here, in Riga. Which also involved great collaboration with Pal.

As to the language choice here on our web site, let us explain something to you. We mainly post information in english, as it is thought to be the universal language understood by majority of local people nowadays. We also post translations to the articles, usually there is one translation – in the original language of the artist we are interviewing. Event’s descriptions are mainly bilingual – russian and latvian.

We never stop searching for interesting talents among our peers, as well as older and younger people. There are not many professional artists in our list, hopefully for now only. We are only at the beginning of our story.

As representatives of Filter we ourselves follow two main rules:

- All the information necessarily goes straight from artists with no editing (except for translation edits).

- We Filter.
